ICO: World 2011-2012 Coffee Output Seen 130 Mln Bags

ICO: World 2011-2012 Coffee Output Seen 130 Mln Bags

LONDON - World coffee production is expected to remain stable next
season at 130 million 60-kilgram bags despite a drop in output from top
producer Brazil, the International Coffee Organization said Monday.
Giving its first estimate for the 2011-12 crop year, the intergovernmental
organization said it expects farmers to boost investments in their farms after
this year's high prices.
Output from top producer Brazil is forecast at 43.54 million bags, including
32.18 million bags of arabica and 11.36 million bags of robusta. That would
mark only a 10% fall in output from the current season despite the trees
entering their biannual off-year.
Yet output from key Asian producers Vietnam and Indonesia is expected to
suffer due to poor weather, said the ICO.
"It is likely that there will be further falls in production in Indonesia and
stagnation in the production of Vietnam," it said.
Global coffee exports are running 16.7% ahead of the same time last season,
according to ICO data. Exports in April totaled 9.7 million bags compared with
7.8 million bags in April 2010, bringing the total for the first seven months
of the 2010-11 crop year to 62.7 million bags.
The ICO kept its estimate for the current crop year unchanged at 133 million
bags of coffee.
