Kansas City, September 8 (World Weather, Inc.) – Rain was reported during the extended U.S. holiday weekend from Parana to central Minas Gerais, Zona de Mata and Espirito Santo and many areas will get a couple of additional rounds of rain this week. Rain fell at one time or another between dawn Friday and 0100 CDT (0600 GMT) today. Amounts ranged from 2 to 15 millimeters most often from northern Parana to central Minas Gerais, Zona de Mata and southern Espirito Santo. A region of greater rain occurred from northern parts of Sul de Minas to Zona de Mata where totals ranged from 20 to 34 millimeters. Some flowering will likely evolve as a result of the weekend precipitation and follow up moisture is expected this week.
Highest temperatures Friday through Monday were in the range of 28 to 38 degrees Celsius from northern Sao Paulo to central Bahia. A couple of locations in northern Minas Gerais reached 40 degrees. Lowest morning temperatures were in the teens with a few readings in the lower 20s.
Rain will concentrate on Sap Paulo today with some showers in southern Sul de Minas and others in northern Parana. Amounts will range from 15 to 30 millimeters with
local totals over 60. The rain will diminish Wednesday while shifting further north into Sul de Minas while lingering somewhat in northern Sao Paulo. A few showers will also occur Wednesday in Rio de Janeiro. Rainfall Wednesday will range from 3 to 15 millimeters with local totals to 32.
One more intensifying wave of rain will evolve in Sao Paulo and northern Parana Thursday before moving to Sul de Minas and Rio de Janeiro Friday through Sunday. Another wave of more significant rain will then begin in Parana and Sao Paulo Sep. 15-17, but it may stay south of Sul de Minas this time. The situation will be closely monitored.
Overall, sufficient rainfall will occur from Parana to Sao Paulo to support flowering. There may also be some flowering in parts of Rio de Janeiro, Sul de Minas and Zona de Mata. Rain is expected often enough in these more northern crop areas to induce some flowers even though each bout of rain will be light. Dry weather will prevail in Bahia, northern Minas Gerais and northern Espirito Santo. These areas are expected to be mostly dry and warm for an extended period of time.
Temperatures will remain hot in the north and mild to cool in the south. Highs this week will vary in the upper teens through the middle 20s from Parana to Sao Paulo with the rainy days coolest. Some of the more sunny days in the south will generate highs rise well into the 20s. A little further north from Sul de Minas into Bahia daily highs will mostly be in the upper 20s through the middle 30s. Extreme highs in the upper 30s to near 40 will prevail in northern Minas Gerais and parts of central Bahia.
